MICA Internship Position

Internship Position:

 

The MICA Internship Position is for adults of any age who are committed to the goals of the organisation.  Interns perform an array of primarily administrative and organizational tasks that are essential to the success of many of MICA’s operations, and as such are expected to take their job seriously.  Candidates must be sure that they are able and willing to spend at least Three 2 six months abroad.  Flexibility and a go-getter attitude are also essential.

 

 

Duties:

 

·         Assist with strategic planning

 

·         Ensure adequate project documentation and evaluation

 

·         Conduct necessary research about beneficiary groups

 

·         Coordinate volunteer program

 

-          Maintain email correspondence with volunteers, donors, and other interested persons

 

-          Coordinate volunteer pick up and drop off

 

-          Conduct volunteer orientation

 

-          Facilitate volunteer projects

 

-          Liaise between volunteers and host families

 

-          Liaise between volunteers and  MICA staff

 

·         Maintain local and international publicity

 

-          Write weekly article series in the Arusha Times

 

-          Networking with international organisations

 

-          Write quarterly  MICA newsletter

 

-          Delegate above tasks to incoming volunteers when possible

 

·         Coordinate sponsor-a-child programme:

 

-          Communicate with sponsors to ensure programme consistency

 

-          Oversee financial details of the programme

 

-          Delegate above tasks to incoming volunteers when possible

 

·         Fundraising

 

-          Research potential donors

 

-          Write, submit, and follow up project proposals

 

-          Send thank you letters to donors

 

-          Coordinate Cultural Tourism Program

 

-          Assist with other income generating activities and fundraisers

 

-          Delegate above tasks to incoming volunteers when possible

 

·         General administration including keeping accounts, maintaining files, maintaining physical assets and supervising staff

 

·         Recruit successor as Camp Manager

 

 

Requirements:

 

·         Available to work for at least three 2 Six months.

 

·         Working towards or completed a university level degree in a relevant field of study and/or former work with a non-governmental organisation, preferably including proposal writing, preferably in a developing country

 

·         Management skills, communication skills, teamwork skills as well as the motivation and initiative to work individually and contend with language barriers.

 

·         Flexible, creative and able to coordinate successfully as a key member of the project.

 

·         Computer literate and skill at writing documentation and funding proposals.

 

·         Excellent writing skills

 

·         Should be able to support themselves financially for the duration of their stay time.

 

·         Must believe in, or at least be open to  Mica’s Christian tenets

 

 

Compensation:

 

·         The position is uncompensated.

Data collection on HIV/AIDS Project

 

  • Focused ground discussion with community leaders and PLWHA (people living with HIV/AIDS) who are on the ARVs programme.

     

  • Interview with a sample of individuals

     

Who are on ARV PROGRAMME?

 

·         Questionnaires distributed to the community and health workers to gather background information on stigma and also on attitudes of ARVs (type of questionnaire)

 

·         Patients VCT centres or hospital testing Records to determine whether there’s been an increase, decrease or no change of HIV testing with the introduction of cost/free ARVs.

 

·   To determine the stigma issues in both communities.

 

·   To determine the ARV up take in these communities

 

·         To observe level of knowledge about the disease and ARV in both the communities

 

·         To assess the quality of the processes involved for ARVs consumption among patients in the selected sites.

 

·         To document challenges and suggestions for reduction of HIV related stigma.
